A Case That Never Should Have Been
July 2018
We were all home playing in the front yard. The girls 3 and 2 at the time. We had just come in from outside. It was time to have a snack and cool down before nap.
These two girls are our world, our life. And our granddaughters. Who we had gotten custody of with the help of cps. Due to their mother (my daughter) and fathers drug addiction as well as physical abuse to the oldest child. Along with their mothers mental impairment.
We are stellar parents to these baby girls. As you will learn the case built against us was purely retaliation. As well as lack of government employees doing their job.
We hope you can help get their story, our story out.
And end cps corruption once and for all..
When CPS knocked on our door I wasn’t too concerned at all. We had been dealing with them since Dec 2015.
Pretty regular to the extent of six months prior we had been asked by them to become foster parents.
And not one allegation had ever been substantiated…
But boy did all that change. When intake worker Seth Turner came to our home insisting that we had the drug problem. Not their mother. Whom had very recently moved back into our basement with her boyfriend.
I would not allow Mr Turner into our home and would not give consent with my other half being pregnant and this infuriated Mr Turner. He eventually left only to return a few days later.
This time he parked in our neighbors driveway and didn’t bother to knock on the front door, he just walked right in.
And requested I take the girls for drug screens. At this point my daughter whom is mentally impaired pretty much broke down crying.
I didn’t understand why at the time but would be very soon.
A few days later we had to go to court. The judge ordered that we cooperate and take the girls for screening.
Upon returning home we walked in to see our youngest granddaughter sitting on the couch.
She immediately wanted to be held. So upon putting her on my lap I heard her crunching something. She then made a horrible face and began acting as if her mouth were burning.
I smelled her breath and it smelled chemically. So I flushed it out as well as i could with water.
Her big sister stated that Mommy had given them rainbow candy that didn’t taste good at all ….
My other half and I were terrified. Both of us thought oh no she is using again and somehow thought she should give it to the girls… When we confronted her about it. She denied and left our home that night with her boyfriend.
The girls were taken to their pediatrician.
Where the oldest child told the story of the rainbow candy to Dr Jeff. He was concerned but not too worried. These girls had already been through a lot. Both were born with drugs in their systems.
We both hoped for the best. But in my heart knew their mother was trying her best to make us look horrible.
She had to have been coached.
Sure thing their test came back positive. As well as ours.
We wanted to right this wrong any way possible.
So after Mr Turner told us our home was contaminated. And we would need to pick a relative to stay with until it was safe to return.
We decided staying with his mother would be our best option. His mother told Mr Turner that she did have health problems but would do all she could to keep us together. So off we were to stay just a few miles away from our home…
Things went well until his mother became ill. We attempted to get in touch with Mr Turner several times over the next week.
To let him know that we would need to get another individual approved because it didn’t appear his mothers health would hold up.. To absolutely no avail.. He was on vacation the entire week so we waited as long as we could and tried to stay put… Her health was not getting any better when we were told that we had to go…
So we went to a very close friend of ours. Whom was a member of guardian of the children, a well know child advocacy group here in Gaston county.
We called daily to let the one social worker know where we were. As well as how the remodeling on our home was going. Hearing nothing from him.
We thought all was well …. at the very end of the week Mr Turner and the police show up to take the girls into custody.
We were in shock asking question after question.
When we were instructed that we had to cooperate or go to jail.
Not wanting the girls to see this happen, we began getting their things together. As we were doing so.
Mr Turner proposition my other half stating “do you want these girls back she replied “of course I do” Mr Turner then stated “then you’ll have sex with me” not knowing I heard the entire conversation, he was steady telling my other half that if she loved those girls “you’ll do whatever it takes to keep them from going to foster care” which is in Ashville NC two hrs away.
He just kept shaking his head no as we were handed a copy of the order for pick up…..our jaws dropped when we saw the judges signature which was the wife of our very own attorney of 15 yrs …Judge Hoyle.
We asked several times how this was even legal. Only to be told we would have to take it up with the judge. They were only following judges orders.
Eventually we watched those beautiful baby girls get put into car seats. Two little girls screaming and crying for us. There seemed to be absolutely no hope. Nothing we could do or say. Would get them to stop their tyranny. And illegal kidnapping of them. And leave them be with us. Where they’d been perfectly happy and thriving well.
We were instructed that we would have a chance to tell the judge everything. We thought we would get help in a week’s time.
Knowing the oldest child had told her doctor and the cps worker about the nasty tasting candy they’d received from their mother. Their mothers own admission of using a very contaminating drug in our home. Our efforts at remodeling. As well, as the fact, that I never had a single drug charge in my life and my other half not having any trouble with drugs. We prayed for the best and thought we actually had a fighting chance at getting our girls back home. To their traditional up bringing and out of states custody.
Little did we know the state had already made their decision based on a hair follicle that came back positive… Even though our urine had come back negative. (Not sure how that works.) Either way they made sure that we didn’t get them back.
That week and subsequently set up visits with the girls and us at the dhhs building… Which was more than I thought we would get at all. Considering we were being treated as if we were criminals. No one wanting to listen to us. Even when trying to tell them all they needed to do. Was look back into their files.
They’d see where the oldest child was born with drugs in her system. And was abused at just a few weeks of age. There was not only their case file but also court documentation. Where a judge found all this to be true. Ordered she be placed in our custody. We drug tested then. Her sister was also born with drugs in her system. We were awarded custody of her also. Each time we were told that they had no knowledge of this. Pretty much blew us off every time we tried to tell them of this.
We tried to cooperate with their every demand. For the most part we did. Taking parenting classes, remodeling our home. The only thing we could not do due to my other half’s work schedule. The one place dhhs said to go could not medically accommodate me, we were even told we could do these classes on line but were never given the info.
Just like the girls never receiving their everyday maintainable meds for the first four months of this nightmare… We tried and tried to give them their meds but were always told their doctors said the girls didn’t need medications. Now keep in mind that these girls saw specialist not just a pediatrician but an asthma and allergy specialist whom prescribed their nebulizer meds and the youngest also had meds prescribed to stop a seizure after her onset at 9 months old. It wasn’t until one of these seizures occurred that dhhs Supervisor Jennifer Helms actually requested their medications. So at the next visit the medications were given to their new case worker Shannon Williams.
The next week we had a meeting. Where we expressed how wrong they were for even allowing these children to be medically neglected. We would not stop until this wrong was made right. And these girls were home where they belonged. The meeting was cut short due to everyone being so upset. Upon leaving the meeting I was extremely upset and crying, my other half was waiting when I came out into the hallway. I was trying to say that they didn’t care that the girls had been medically neglected the past four months. And wanted to place them back with their mother and father.
Keep in mind two judges had already said this would never happen. We had asked that they not be placed with my relatives due to my upbringing. The fact that the person that coached my daughter into giving the girls drugs as well as contaminating us and our home was a direct relative. That they would definitely come in contact with. If placed with either sister. My parents were too old. As well as my father’s health not being good at all. The abuse I suffered from the hands of my mother. That also fell on deaf ears and they were placed with my middle sister.
Each time we went before Judge Thrower we would have our hopes up about giving these facts but to no avail… We NEVER had the chance to speak other than to defend my other half when dhhs deemed them terrorist for stating “don’t worry we will get their butts in court”. Which turned into “we will shoot this place up”, that was a year ago.
We haven’t seen nor heard from those beautiful girls since then. They claim to not make you take drug screens. But I was told by the judge if I didn’t screen I couldn’t see the girls…
When screening the urine came back negative every time. Am I wrong but the hair follicle test are pretty much assault we never had to consent to those in the first place. As well as all our initial screenings were well within the contamination window. Yet with every hair follicle test the numbers seemed to increase.
Jennifer Helms would call stating this and telling us it’s a whole new ball game now… We still don’t understand how a game is in the best interest of the girls. She has also told us that DHHS doesn’t have to go by due process. As well as the judge is going to do what we tell her too.
We have called Valarie Johnson with Human Relations trying to get someone, anyone to hear how poorly we have been treated. Not a soul wishes to get involved, yet Melanie Lowrance third in command at the Gaston County department of social services. Has stepped down from this case all together.
The one social worker who admitted that the girls not receiving their medications until after the youngest suffered a prolonged seizure was wrong on their part. As well as looking up the info needed about parenting classes. Finding it months later and laughing about it. Then stating she was sure it was no longer needed, is not with the department any longer. Mr Turner has been removed from the case all together and instructed not to speak to us about it. All of these facts should be plenty to see the guilt on their part.
We miss these girls terribly and worry for them constantly. Praying that someone somewhere can help.
We go to court this coming Wed in hopes to finally be able to tell the truth. It’s been almost 2 years since this started. From what we can see they never did backgrounds to take them illegally interest place.
Please help us to help them.
They were already at a disadvantage being raised by grandparents. We know, but we were stellar parents, role models, providers and care givers to these beautiful little souls. And feel the level of injustice as well as constitutional rights violations. Should be enough to get someone… any one to hear us. To help the girls restore our family and out CPS for the child thrives that they are.
If you need any more information we would be happy to speak with you at any time.
